“THOSE WHO MOVE US” is a collaboration between the Land Transport Authority, Canon Singapore and myself. In Aug 2015, I was tasked to lead a photography workshop/expedition comprising 30 photo enthusiats across all walks of life, united by their passion for photography and perhaps more importantly, the fact that they, like many other SIngaporeans are regular commuters on our public transport system.
The brief was to capture the behind the scenes, the ins and outs, the mechanisms, the machines and structures, the mud and the sweat and most crucially, the people who put together our public transport system.
In my career as a photographer, I have been to countless industrial sites across the world. Nothing really moved me like this project. Perhaps its because its my home country. Perhaps its because whenever I am on a train or on a bus, it never crossed my mind how all these came to existence in the very first place. Or perhaps it could simply be the sight of all the nameless and faceless foreign labourers toiling away in mud, rain or shine just so that years down the road, you and me can get from A to B safely.
